Paulo 'Coelho' Brandão

Paulo Brandão, known by many as ‘Coelho’, is a Black Belt World Champion (1996) in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

His incredible pedigree, history and personal, written recommendations from Royler Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Rolker Gracie, Kid Peligro and Tim Kennedy have brought him to the United States on an O-1 Visa for Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement from US Citizenship and Immigration Services to be the Head Instructor at Gracie Humaitá Austin Academy.

Paulo ‘Coelho’ Brandão, from Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu more than 25 years ago. In 1995, Paulo ‘Coelho’ along with Saulo Ribeiro, Renato Barreto and Cleber Luciano received their Black Belt from their mentor and friend Royler Gracie. Later that year this group of extraordinary Jiu-Jitsu artists were Brazilian Team Champions.

In 1996, Paulo ‘Coelho’ and Royler closed out the Featherweight division at the very first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships at the Tijuca Tênis Clube.

Paulo ‘Coelho’ went on to win many other titles while maintaining his passion for teaching Jiu-Jitsu. With a degree in nutrition and years of training and competing at the highest level, Paulo ‘Coelho’ would often work and instruct with Royler and Rolker Gracie at the famed Gracie Humaitá Academy in Rio De Janiero. To date, Paulo ‘Coelho’ has awarded the rank of Black Belt to 30+ students.
